Not Yours to Give David Crockett One day in the House of Representatives a bill was taken up appropriating money for the benefit of a widow of a distinguished naval officer. Several beautiful speeches had been made in its support. The speaker was just about to put the question when Crockett arose: “Mr. Speaker–I have as much respect for the memory of the deceased, and as much sympathy for the suffering of the living, if there be, as any man in this House, but we must not permit our respect for

Even before the stock market imploded and the recession struck, students were finding it increasingly difficult to pay for college. Students are borrowing at higher levels than they ever had before. At least two out of three students leave school saddled with student debt. With the financial industry and others getting bailed out, higher ed leaders are wondering why students and families can’t receive some relief. Thirteen higher ed organizations sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi e

Here is the rest of the week in mostly pictures. Wed morning the plumber came he said that it would only take 1 hour. Well 3 hours later He finally finished. It was crazy. He said that the worst thing to put down the disposal is: Egg shells, potato peelings, pasta, rice, grease. Well duh. The people who lived in the house before us put a lot of grease down the drain. He said the clog was over 10 feet long. Gross! While he was still there my mom and I made waffles. Every time he would leave the k

So we met up for our first date tonight.  She texted back and forth a few times to confirm.  She lives in deep west London and I live in the east.  About an hour apart.  We meet at the station near my house.  Hey I’m no fool man. She texts me an hour before our date to let me know that she can only see me for an hour.  I text back that there is no way she’s cancelling our date.  When we meet she makes us go to a bar right next to the station, instead of my fav one that’s a short walk away.

And so I was rummaging through my harddisk looking for some files to delete since it is running out of free space. And then I found The Chumbscrubber movie. This was a remnant from my Camilla Belle phase. A friend lent me this movie called The Quiet and I saw this really pretty girl. Did a little research and found that her name was Camilla Belle. Searched for her other movies and that was the time I got hold of The Chumbscrubber. So anyway at the end of the movie, the song Our House was

For the past month or so, Jani’s been developing a fanboyish addiction to House, M.D. I don’t think the series is bad (not at all), and he’s been watching about 2-3 episodes a day, but it hasn’t perked any in particular interest in me. I’ll watch it when I happen to be in the room, but most of the time I’ll just settle for listening in from the hallway where my computer sits. It’s a very formulaic series and you can pretty much tell it’s going to twist and turn and House is going to be the grum

My muchkin is 6 today! I feel joy and a bit of sadness that she is growing. I have written in her lunch note today: “Dani today is the last day you are 5 enjoy it!” She wants to grow up fast; and I want to keep her small. I am seeing the hard work pay off in bits at a time. How well behave she is getting (outside the house) and how great is her imagination as well. She is such a blessing to me. Because of her I got to experience what motherhood is.
